Abstract
Propinsi Maluku Utara yang dikenal dengan Moloku Kie Raha sejak abad ke-13 sudah bersentuhan
dengan Islam yang selanjutnya memunculkan empat kerajaan Islam (kesultanan) terkenal, yaitu: Ternate,
Tidore, Bacan, dan Jailolo. Pelembagaan Islam pada berbagai kerajaan tersebut mewariskan naskahnaskah
kuno sebagai tinggalan budaya tulis .yang mengindikasikan ketinggian budaya masyarakatnya.
Naskah-naskah kuno keagamaan Islam yang bervariasi masih banyak dipelihara oleh masyarakattdan
terkadang ada yang disakralkan, seperti yang diketemukan pada masyarakat Tidore
